We’ll start with the obvious: This web site is up and running! You’ll notice that we have a mix of content — reviews, blogs and some premium content. We’ve decided not to charge for any of it but, if you’re going to read the top-shelf stuff, we need you to share with us your name, email address and permission to send you a weekly newsletter we’ll be kicking off within the month.
The premium content will be the Inside Baseball on con running. We’re a first-year con, so this is really presumptuous of us. Then again, we represent the outer boroughs of New York City, which means what we lack in experience we more than make up for in chutzpah. (Look it up, Gem City!) Seriously, though, our CEO and CFO ran KnightroKon in Orlando for years. The rest of us are experienced entertainment lawyers, project managers and business consultants. We’re making our intellectual capital available to you for free. It might help you with drawing up contracts, prevent lawsuits, manage all your con’s moving parts and, in the case of this morning’s data dump, help you with market research. We hope you take a look at the premium content as we crank it out.
Of course, you don’t need to be a con runner or have any interest in our legal, managerial and marketing savvy to subscribe to our newsletter. Just click the box on the right side of this page. That’s the easiest way to stay informed about all the nerdy goodness that will manifest at the inaugural BoroughCon.
These are bold words from a con that has yet to announce its first guest. It’s fair game to point that out if you like but, by sometime in September, we’ll be posting news about that critical factor. We already have agreements in principle with a number of leading cosplayers and voice actors and, without saying too much about it at this stages, we have reason for high confidence that some A-listers and household names will be spending Memorial Day weekend with us at St. John’s University. We don’t want to mislead: We’re not going to have the quantity of Good Gets that you’d see in San Diego or Atlanta or for that matter Manhattan, but we’re shaping up to be a pretty impressive first-year con. Give us the rest of the summer to sort this out, then stay tuned for announcements as we can make them.
Ditto for exhibitors and sponsors. We’re already in contact with a number of leading artists, writers, publishers and merchants. Along the same lines, we should soon be making announcements about corporate sponsors, including an official airline and one or more official hotels.
Oh, one more thing. We’ve been working on a mascot and have shared brief glimpses of her on our Facebook page. That’s all you get for now, but our design team has really done an exceptional job incarnating the spirit of the Four Boroughs. We love her already, and think you will too.
